I can’t believe the first month of 2017 has run it’s course, around this time many of us are set back into our old ways despite running around for the first week of the year raving ‘new year, new me’. If you feel you’ve slipped away from your new year resolutions this post should help you get back on track.
1. Look back - remind yourself exactly what your resolutions were and why you set them in the first place. What were your key goals, which steps did you want to take to get to them and what was it that you didn’t like about your old habits?
2. Timeline - if you didn’t do this in January, write yourself a step by step timeline of when you want to have achieved each step. Ensure your mini milestones aren’t so far apart that it becomes too easy to fall off the wagon again. These regular reminders will not only keep you on track but will allow you to see how far you’ve come.
3. Grab a buddy - often when we want to achieve a goal it always helps if we have like minded people around. So grab your best friend and decide to support each other through your goals. Even if you don’t have the same ones it can’t hurt to help each other out.
4. Reward yourself - often we are so hard on ourselves when we don’t achieve the things we set out to but rarely do we reward ourselves for what we do achieve. Buy yourself a little treat every so often just to remind yourself that your hard work really does pay off. A candle, a lovely shower gel or simply enjoying a relaxing bath will do the trick. Try to stay away from rewarding yourself with food though.
